昨夕、宇山教授、金谷准教授、吉村先生(以上、藤田保健衛生大学上部消化管外科)、坂井教授(京都大学)、上原先生(名古屋大学)が、ソウルに到着されました。
Dr. Hyungと、小生とで韓国伝統料理を食べました。花井准教授(藤田保健衛生大学下部消化管外科)もその後、到着されました。岡部先生(京都大学)、平松先生(藤田保健衛生大学上部消化管外科)も加わり、3/31-4/1、手術見学をされます予定です。

The last evening, Prof. Uyama, Associate Prof. Kanaya, Dr. Yoshimura (Upper GI, Fujita Health Univ.), Prof. Sakai (Kyoto Univ.), Dr. Uehara (Nagoya Univ.) arrived at Seoul.
Dr. Hyung and I met them and ate dinner at Korean traditional style restaurant (photo). After eating at the first restaurant, Associate Prof. Hanai (Colorectal, Fujita Health Univ.) arrived. They will observe operations at 31st, March and 1st, April. Dr. Okabe (Kyoto Univ.) and Dr. Hiramatsu (Upper GI, Fujita Health Univ.) also plan to observe the operation.
日曜日の昼は、同僚のソン先生と昼食を食べに行きました。ソン先生は、3年間の兵役の義務を終えて、今年から、大学に僕と同じ様な立場で、復帰されました。韓国では、男性は2-3年の兵役義務がありますが、彼は、その間、タンザニアに滞在しており、スワヒリ語も話せますし、英語も非常に堪能です。

On Sunday, I went lunch with Dr. Son. After he finished 3 years’ obligation of military service, he came back this year as a fellow which position is almost same with me. In Korea, male have 2-3 years obligation for military service. At that time, Dr. Son stayed in Tanzania (Africa) and he can speak not only fluent English but also Swahili.
昨日は朝、4時に起き、ソウルから高速バスで3時間半かけて、韓国南西部の光州(クァンジュ)市の朝鮮大学に行き、腹腔鏡胃切除セミナーに参加してきました。韓国の学会は、勿論ハングル語ですが、スライドは、英語を用います。日本からは、大分大学の衛藤先生が腹腔鏡胃切除の手技についての招待講演されました。また、アメリカからDr. Kimが肥満手術の講演をされました。
To attend the seminar of laparoscopic gastrectomy, I wake up AM 4 o’clock, went to Chosun University in Gwangju city (Southwest of Korea) by 3.5 hours’ express bus. In Korea, even though presentation speech is done in Korean language, the language of the slide is in English. From Japan, Dr. Etoh (Oita University) was invited and gave a lecture regarding technical steps & tips of laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer. From USA, Dr. Kim gave a lecture regarding bariatric surgery.
セミナーの後は、楽しい食事会でした。1件目は、焼肉を、2件目は地元魚料理でした。皆さん、とても仲良しで、熱いディスカッションでした。衛藤先生も勿論夕食会に参加されました。
After the seminar, I attend enjoyable dinner party. We ate beef at the first restaurant and local fish meal at the second restaurant. Korean doctors are making good friendship each other and it was heat discussion.??Dr. Etoh also joined the dinner.
海外に住んでいる際の問題は、自分の思いを上手に伝えられないことです。また、生まれ育った環境や文化や礼儀も異なるために、自分がしている行動や発言がその国の人に対して、不愉快にさせる可能性がありうることです。
そのため、いかにして、異国の人と、心を通じ合うことができるかを考える必要があります。心が通じ合えば、生活もしやすいですし、仕事もスムーズに進みます。
When I stay in the foreign country, one of the big problems is the difficulty to inform what I’m thinking. Since the lived environment, culture and politeness is different, my behavior or message sometimes could easily make foreign people unpleasant. So, I should think how to make good relationship with them. Good relationship will help me not only to stay comfortably but also to make good jobs.
ひとつは、物事を広く受け入れる事かと思います。その国の人の立場に立つと思って、まっさらの自分を作りなおすのです。
二つ目は、自分の気持ちを普段から単純明快にして、少ない言葉でも、できる限り自分の思いを言葉で表現することです。そのため、英語で分かってもらえれば、英語で、それが無理なら、片言のハングルで、できる限り会話を持つ必要があります。
３つめは、挨拶です。こんにちは、ありがとう、ごちそうさま。毎日、挨拶をすることは、心が通じ合えるきっかけになります。
The follow things are that what I think it is important.
The first is “acceptance”. I should try to accept whole things at the site of foreigners’ thinking.
?The second is “simplicity”. I usually should try to think simply and express as much as possible what I want to say by limited words. With this concept, I believe that either English or baby Korean may helpful to share together, even though it is difficult to express in detail.
The last is “greeting”. Needless to say, it is important to say “Hello”, “Thank you”,?“Thank you for your nice meal” and so on??. These messages may give us an opportunity to start good friendship.
来週、藤田保健衛生大学から宇山教授、金谷准教授、平松先生、吉村先生と下部外科の花井先生がYonsei大学に来られる予定です。
At next week, Professor Uyama, Associate Professor Kanaya, Dr. Hiramatsu, Dr. Yoshimura and Associate Professor Hanai (Colorectal) from Fujita Health University schedule to visit Yonsei University.
写真は手術室の舞台裏です。38室の手術室を1日平均150件の全身麻酔手術を行うため、この写真のように、セットがあらかじめ組んであるようです。

Here are shelves in operation passageway. In Yonsei, there are 37 operation rooms and mean operation cases held by general anesthesia are 150 in one day. From the morning, several sets for many operations are prepared.
京都府立医科大学の後輩の前田先生(現在自治医大におられます、写真左)が、大腸の国際学会でソウルに来られ、夕食をともにしました。こちらで、親しくさせていただいているオリンパスの三浦さん(写真右)に案内していただき、カムジャタン(豚の背骨とジャガイモを煮込んだ鍋)を食べました。お腹いっぱいになりました。
Dr. Maeda who was my junior graduated Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine (now in Jichi Medical University,left of the photo) visited to Seoul for international congress of colorectal. Yesterday, I took dinner with him and Mr. Miura who is a staff of Olympus Company (right of the photo). We ate Gamjatang. It’s a spicy Korean soup made with pork spine, vegetables and potato. It was? full stomach for me.
昨夜は、慣れない、料理をしました。ラーメンに炒めた卵とキムチをのせました。ご飯、卵、キムチは、いつも、共用キッチンに用意されています。キムチは、卵と炒めると、甘みが出るんです。
I cooked exceptionally for last dinner. I made ramen with pan-fried scramble egg and kimuchi. I brought ramen from Japan. Rice, egg, kimuchi is always prepared in the shared kitchen. After pan-fried kimuchi with egg, it becomes sweet.
ダビンチ胃切除は、午前中で終了しましたので、午後から、関西医大の柳本先生写真中央)と良性のう胞性腫瘍に対するダビンチ脾臓温存膵尾部切除を見学しました。
術者は、カン先生(写真左)で、日頃から、よく話しかけてくださる優しい優秀な先生です。残念ながら、柳本先生のダビンチ見学証明書は、写真の外でした。
After robotic gastrectomy in the morning, I observed preserving spleen for cystic benign tumor with Dr. Yanagimoto from Kansai Medical University (center).
Dr. Kang who is the operator (left) is kind excellent doctor. Unfortunately, Dr. Yanagimoto’s certificate of observation for robotic surgery was out of photo.
3月18-19日と、関西医科大学から、医師5人、看護師5人の方々が見学に来られました。国際交流、意見交換を含めて、非常に楽しい有意義な時間を過ごすことができました。写真は、宴会でのものです。
From 18-19th, March, 5 doctors and 5 nurses visited to observe our hspital. We had very significant enjoyable times with each other. Photo is from the dinner party.
